Rep. Jefferson Smith laughs with the exalted ruler and his wife during a dinner/speaking engagement at an Elks Club in Portland as a member has just told a joke up on stage. He vaulted to prominence by founding The Bus Project, which mobilized young people to get involved in politics. The charismatic leader often has been touted as a future politician, even a future governor, and now he is starting up the political ladder, serving his first term in the Legislature, as a Democratic House member from outer SE Portland....
